Forum Feed Authentication

Thanks for the update Bill. I haven't had time to look any further into this yet, but certainly do plan to.

Just an FYI in case anyone else wants to do some research on it in the meantime, the member forums were setup using FireBoard v1.0.3. Last week I upgraded to their latest stable release (v1.0.4), and applied a few hacks that were necessary to get the RSS feeds working; one of the issues is that Fireboard inserts the DTD in the feed, which is unacceptable to most browsers/readers...so I simply commented it out, and it feeds started working in IE7 and Firefox.

I'll try to do some more research on the issue as soon as timer permits. Thx again! - Larry A. Compton

I signed up for a free NewsGator Online account because it supports authenticated feeds. But alas, it still does not work for the Media-Geeks forum feeds. - Bill Arnette

Feed Readers

I apologize Bill, you're right; the forum feed won't work in a reader, as you need to be logged in to view the forums and the related feed. *scratching head*

I've tested the forum feed in IE7 and Firefox 2 and it works w/o issue, as the browser caches the credentials. Safari 3.1 won't display the forum feed though, and I suspect that's a caching related issue as well.

*still scratching head*

I'm not sure how to get around this at this point, but will look into it as soon as time permits. - Larry A. Compton

Larry, the forums RSS feed still does not appear to be working with Google Reader. The title is "(title unknown)" and there are no items.
