For the last few weeks I have been absolutely innundated and just haven't been able to spend as much time as I'd like to further developing Media-Geek.com features and services.  The great thing about this community concept, however, is that its success does not rely on any one individual...and many others have stepped up to the plate.  At some point today I suspect we will exceed 200 active professional forensic media related members!

Recently one of our members pointed out that the Member Forum RSS Feed wasn't working, so just in case you experienced this issue I wanted to let you know it was resolved moments ago.  RSS aggregators provide a great way to stay abreast of our site content, with seperate feeds available for various content areas throughout the site.

Thanks everybody for keeping things moving forward lately, and don't forget to tell your peers and colleagues to Sign-up, Sign-in, and Contribute!

Forum Feed Authentication
written by Larry A. Compton, March 24, 2008
Thanks for the update Bill. I haven't had time to look any further into this yet, but certainly do plan to.

Just an FYI in case anyone else wants to do some research on it in the meantime, the member forums were setup using FireBoard v1.0.3. Last week I upgraded to their latest stable release (v1.0.4), and applied a few hacks that were necessary to get the RSS feeds working; one of the issues is that Fireboard inserts the DTD in the feed, which is unacceptable to most browsers/readers...so I simply commented it out, and it feeds started working in IE7 and Firefox.

I'll try to do some more research on the issue as soon as timer permits. Thx again!

NewsGator supports credentials
written by Bill Arnette, March 24, 2008
I signed up for a free NewsGator Online account because it supports authenticated feeds. But alas, it still does not work for the Media-Geeks forum feeds.

Feed Readers
written by Larry A. Compton, March 20, 2008
I apologize Bill, you're right; the forum feed won't work in a reader, as you need to be logged in to view the forums and the related feed. *scratching head*

I've tested the forum feed in IE7 and Firefox 2 and it works w/o issue, as the browser caches the credentials. Safari 3.1 won't display the forum feed though, and I suspect that's a caching related issue as well.

*still scratching head*

I'm not sure how to get around this at this point, but will look into it as soon as time permits.

Not working with Google Reader
written by Bill Arnette, March 20, 2008
Larry, the forums RSS feed still does not appear to be working with Google Reader. The title is "(title unknown)" and there are no items.
